TO DO:

1) Call lawyer's office re: hire me, you procrastinating fucks.
2) RP the shit out of this weekend.

Yeah, that's all I'm putting on that. Baby steps, my friends. Baby steps. Also having woken up sick (lolol apparently my copy chief can read lips, so not being able to speak in the newsroom tonight was NO PROBLEMO) is making me not want to do anything ever. ...Except lie in bed and RP. I am feeling particularly responsible about shit for some reason -- not that I'm actually being responsible, so I have no idea where this well of feeling mature is coming from -- so I will reward myself by doing jack shit all weekend.

Except maybe geting drunk. That is a requirement.

hmmm, statistics. (missbossyboots)
So I finally finished fixing up my past character list, and the numbers stand at - 54 games, 195 characters. That is a lot of freaking applications that I've written in my life.

I also decided to streamline my current/pending list, to discover... I have 24 characters over 7 games, with 6 pending characters over 3 games.

WHUPS.

Anyway, in lieu of... actual content, have a to-do list!

to-do! )

... THAT IS A LOT OF SHIT, OMG. WTF. And my new monthly activity to-do list starts over in a week. ARGH.

This is so not RP-related. But anyways. For my Abnormal Psychology class, our term paper is based on watching a movie (chosen from a pre-written list), figure out what particular disorder one of the characters has, and write about it. So help me choose.

What movie should I choose to write my paper on?

eight; than one hundred people's ninth favourite thing. (madrugada)
Given the...quality (a term I use loosely) of the discourse on my entry yesterday, I thought this little community of budding philosophers might do well to have a lesson in formal logic and logical fallacies.

For Your Edification:

1. a dicto simpliciter ad dictum secundum quid - fallacy of accident.
Making a generalization that disregards exceptions, eg. "Cutting someone is a crime. In surgery, Healers cut people. Therefore, Healers are criminals."
2. a dicto secundum quid ad dictum simpliciter - converse fallacy of accident.
Arguing from a special case to a general rule, eg. "Some people with magical ability are born to Muggle parents, so all Muggles must have the ability to produce Magical offspring."
3. ignoratio elenchi - irrelevant conclusions.
Diverting attention away from a fact rather than disputing directly.

This type of fallacy falls into three categories: )

4. circulus in probando - circular reasoning.
Also known as "begging the question." In contemporary usage, often refers to an argument where the premises are as questionable as the conclusion, eg. "This person who agrees with me must be making the best argument, because I agree with them."
5. non sequitur - fallacy of false cause.
Incorrectly assuming one thing is the cause of another.

This falls into two categories: )

I hope, in the future, this lesson will lead to less...clumsy attempts to refute logical arguments.

If there were psychics around, I'd be, like, scaring the shit out of them. With, ya know, a comparison to how my mind usually is. I'm particularly bitchy at the moment, even if it doesn't show on the outside.

AND WHY DO I HAVE FREAKING CHEMISTRY EVERY DAY? I'm a bio major. Yes, yes, shut up, shut up, I know, I know. I know chem is important. But my chem buddies want to sit in the first row and I don't want to look dumb. I am so incredibly rusty.

Uh...yeah. Gotta go to chem.

OKAY, BREAK FOR THE MOST AWESOMEST ARTICLE EVER.

Because my graduate program is on information science, and that's the study of what we do right here, folks. I'm going to do a blog project on livejournal. xD

ANYWAY.

You have to see this article linked from one of my introductory lectures: "The Core Rules of Netiquette".

Highlights:

"You are not the center of cyberspace."

"Lurk before you leap."

"Know what you're talking about and make sense."

"You will be judged on the quality of your writing."

Much of it is out of date... and the bit about swearing, it's hilarious. If you can't handle seeing the word 'shit' on the internet, unplug everything and buy a candle and a book. xD

In other news. Apparently Nintendo said today that the core audience will have to wait 2-3 years for a game (Mario, Zelda, etc.). Good to know they stopped caring about the people that followed them through thick and thin.

all about the bats. (bugsy)
I live across the hall from Batman, apparently.

You know how dorms will do that cutesy themed shit? Stuff that entertains the RAs and gives them something to do while they wait for people to move in? Well, the theme of the hall I moved onto yesterday is superheroes. And all the women have superheroines. But the RA is Batman. So the first thing I see when I open my door is a Batman poster, Batman decorations, a Batman whiteboard. It is nuts. Other heroes I noticed just walking down the hallway: Zatanna, Catwoman, Jade (JEALOUS, MAN), Jean Grey, Emma Frost, Dani Moonstar, Aquagirl, Spider-Girl, Knockout, and Sailor Moon (wtf I know). I got assigned Kinetix from Legion of Super-Heroes.

Additionally, the community cork board is draped in TDK fabric and the RA's room is decked out in Batman shit (you can see because she leaves her door open). Also, TDK will be shown on the quad in a month or so.

So have y'all heard about this new conscience rule that's being proposed to protect doctors from giving abortions or sterilizing people?

Here's a call to action.

You know, I don't have a lot to say because other people have said the same exact things I'm thinking in better ways. But Jesus. This shouldn't be an issue. A doctor's responsibility is to the patient, not to his or her delicate conscience. Doctors take an oath to do no harm and in denying contraceptive or abortion or sterilization to a patient that needs it - for whatever reason said patient may have - they are causing harm. If this goes through, doctors can turn away patients and not even have to refer to them to someone who will help. Disgusting.

Knowledge is power. Spread the word.

Had a nasty trip with a laser in my eyes last week that has left them super sensitive to light. seven; i'd rather be nine people's favourite thing (madrugada)
The ancient Spartans had an institutionalized system of what we would now call negative eugenics and military training called the agoge, which, among many unpleasant things not acceptable to discuss in polite society, included the intentional exposure to the elements of infants who were considered unfit for the Spartan military lifestyle because of physical deformity or mental retardation and weakness. The purpose of this exposure was, naturally, to kill the infirm infants and thus weed out their negative traits in order to further strengthen the Spartan society as a whole.

Since there has been some confusion, I thought I would make this easier for those who are wont to insert their own prejudices as they may to read:

In the face of mankind's history of systematic and systemic cruelty toward individuals in the name of improving the body of society, is it any wonder that we (meaning the United Kingdom of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, The Falkland Islands, and the Phoenix Islands, and St. Helena & Dependencies) are once again in a time where this question is at the forefront of our politics and personal lives? Can we not appreciate that we (meaning those who subscribe to the view of positive eugenics through selective marriage in order to strengthen the bloodlines of the families carrying the magical gene, also known as 'Purists') are at least going about it in a more civilized manner, rather than attempting to achieve our aims through the wholesale and inaccurate slaughter of infants?
